Credentials and expiry dates
For: Professionals · Venues
On Sunworker, a credential only counts once it has been verified, and only until its expiry date is reached.
At a glance
- What a credential is: an uploaded document that has been checked and carries an expiry date. Only the check turns the upload into a credential.
- Who checks: Sunworker checks vocational training, HACCP training and the trade licence manually. Stripe checks your identity when you set up your payout account.
- Who it is for: Professionals upload their credentials. Clients see on the profile which credentials are verified and until when they are valid.
The four required documents
A professional is only approved once all four required documents have been verified. Only then is the profile public and in search, and only then can you accept requests, send messages and leave reviews.
| Credential | What you submit | Who checks |
|---|---|---|
| Vocational training or retraining | Training certificate or retraining certificate, for example vocational training as a chef or in restaurant service | Sunworker, manually |
| HACCP training | Certificate of attendance for HACCP training | Sunworker, manually |
| Trade licence | Business registration from the trade office | Sunworker, manually |
| Identity | the details requested when you set up your payout account | Stripe, when you set up the payout account |
Important: Stripe checks your identity when you set up your payout account.
For shifts involving food
Anyone who handles food commercially – in the kitchen as well as in service – needs the instruction from the public health office under § 43 of the German Infection Protection Act, often called a food hygiene certificate. The initial instruction is given by the public health office; you upload the certificate of it to Sunworker.
Without a verified, valid food hygiene certificate you cannot accept shifts involving food. More in the Help Centre: Health certificate under § 43 IfSG.
Important: The certificate only proves the instruction, not your state of health. Sunworker doesn't ask for health data – please don't upload any medical documents.
Other credentials
Besides the required documents you can upload others: hygiene training, allergen training, first aid, licence to serve alcohol, business liability insurance and other documents. The client sets which credentials a shift requires in the request. If you are missing one of them, you cannot accept that shift.
Some verified details appear as a “Verified by Sunworker” badge on your profile, for example identity verified, trade verified, food hygiene certificate and insured – the last two only while the credential is verified and valid.
How to upload a credential
- Open the credentials step in onboarding or the credentials section in your profile.
- Choose the type of credential and upload the document as a PDF or image – an image up to 10 MB, a PDF up to 15 MB.
- Enter the issuer, the date of issue and, if there is one, the expiry date.
- Sunworker checks the document. Until then, the credential shows as “open” in your profile.
Your documents are never public: they are kept in non-public storage. Only which credentials you have and until when they are valid is public. The detailed guide is in the Help Centre: Uploading credentials and having them verified.
What the status on the profile means
- Open: uploaded, the check is under way. Clients see “In review”.
- Verified: Sunworker has checked the document. The profile shows until when it is valid.
- Expired: The expiry date has passed. The credential no longer counts but stays visible as expired instead of quietly disappearing.
- Rejected: The credential does not appear on the profile. You can upload a different document.
What happens after the check
- If everything is in order
- Your account is approved. Your profile is public and in search, and you can accept requests.
- If something is missing
- You are asked to submit further documents. A new document is checked again.
- If approval is refused
- You'll find the reason in your account.
If you have questions about the check, write to kontakt@sunworker.eu.
When you can accept
- Your account is approved.
- Your billing details are complete.
- Your payout account is active.
- “Bookings switched on” is on.
- For shifts involving food: you have a verified, valid food hygiene certificate.
If accepting still doesn't work, the Help Centre article Why can’t I accept? helps.
When a credential expires
You can see the expiry dates in your profile for each credential, and Sunworker reminds you beforehand. When a credential expires, you disappear from searches that require it and can no longer be requested for shifts that depend on it.
So upload the new document in good time. A new document resets the check – that way an expired credential cannot be extended with just any image.
Warning: A forged or no longer valid required document can lead to Sunworker restricting or suspending your account. Account suspension and complaints
What clients see
- The profile shows for each credential whether it is verified, in review or expired, and until when it is valid. Reading a professional’s profile and credentials
- In search, “valid” means: verified by Sunworker and not expired on the chosen day – without a chosen day: today. How we sort
- You set which credentials a shift requires in the request. Search can be narrowed down to a valid credential.
- You don't see the documents themselves – only the type of credential and its validity.
Important: Sunworker checks completeness, legibility and period of validity, not professional suitability. The check is no guarantee of suitability, reliability or the authenticity of information.
Venues are checked before approval too: they submit a business registration or an extract from the commercial register.
Frequently asked questions
Who checks my identity?
Stripe, when you set up your payout account.
Does an expired credential still count?
No. It stays visible on the profile as expired but no longer counts. You disappear from searches that require it until a new document has been verified.
Can I simply extend an expired credential?
Only with a new document. It resets the check and is checked again.
Does Sunworker check whether a professional is professionally suitable?
No. What is checked is the completeness, legibility and period of validity of the documents. How a professional works is shown by the reviews after completed shifts.
