Insurance and accidents
As a self-employed person you are responsible for your own insurance cover; Sunworker recommends business liability insurance and checking with the Berufsgenossenschaft, the statutory accident insurance body for your trade, before your first shift.
What you are responsible for
You work on your own account and are not covered by the venue’s statutory accident insurance. The most useful cover includes:
- Business liability insurance: for damage that happens while you work — a broken appliance or a stain on a guest’s suit.
- Berufsgenossenschaft: the statutory accident insurance body for your trade. Depending on your work, compulsory insurance may apply. Clarify this before your first shift.
- Health and pension insurance: organised yourself as a self-employed person. Sunworker does not pay anything towards this.
You can upload your business liability insurance as a credential. Once verified, a badge for it appears on your profile.
What the venue is responsible for
The venue is liable for its premises, equipment and safety at the place of work — as it is towards any other service provider. Sunworker is an intermediary and is not liable for the work itself or for damage during a shift. If the venue points out hazards — hot appliances, cleaning products, steps in the storeroom — take them seriously.
In the event of an accident or damage
- First make sure first aid is given, and call the emergency services if necessary.
- Write down what happened: time, place, people involved. Photos of the damage help later on.
- Report the case to your insurer and clarify it with the venue.
- If you have to stop the shift, enter the actual time as your actual hours and note the reason.
This information does not replace insurance advice. Which insurance you need is best clarified with your insurer. Sunworker does not decide on compensation for damage. You settle that between yourselves or with your insurers.
